शाहिद: अभी आप कैसा फ़ील कर रहे हैं?
शोएब: मैं नर्वस हूँ अभी बहुत अंदर से कि आप क्या पूछेंगे, क्योंकि मैंने कभी पहले ऐसे किया नहीं है और मुझे लग रहा है अच्छा जाएगा! मैं अच्छा हूँ और जीवन में काफ़ी कुछ चल रहा है जो मैं करना चाहता हूँ और करता भी हूँ चाहे वह हो या ना हो, जैसे अभी मैंने एक्सरसाइज़ करना शुरू किया है, हालांकि 6 बजे का अलार्म लगाता हूँ और उठता हूँ 7 बजे| मगर मैं 10–15 मिनट एक्सरसाइज़ करता हूँ, और भी चीज़ें शुरू की जिसके साथ मैं काम करता हूँ, उनको मैं और स्किल्स सिखाऊं, जो मुझे आते हैं, और सोचता हूँ कैसे हर रोज अपने स्किल्स को और इम्प्रूव करूँ!
शाहिद: अपने बारे में थोड़ा बताइए?
शोएब: देखिए बातों बातों में मैं अपना परिचय करवाना भूल गया, तो मेरा नाम शोएब है। मैं दिल्ली में रहता हूँ, मैंने अपनी पढ़ाई इग्नू से पूरी की है। अभी मैं वहीं से एम.बी.ए. कर रहा हूँ और साथ में CA फ़ॉउंडेशन की भी तयारी कर रहा हूँ | मैं अभी फ़्रीलासिंग में अकाउंटिंग एंड एक्सपेंडिचर के रूप में काम कर रहा हूँ!
शाहिद: लोग मान लेते हैं कि फाइनेंस बोरिंग है क्या आप मानते है ऐसा है? आपका फाइनेंस में कैसे इंटरेस्ट आया?
शोएब: मेरा फाइनेंस में कैसे इंटरेस्ट आया है इसके पीछे एक अजीब कहानी है,जब मैंने अपनी दसवीं कक्षा पास करी थी तो मेरे नंबर काफ़ी कम आए और मैं पढ़ने में एवरेज से भी कम था, तो हुआ यूँ कि कक्षा ग्यारहवीं में मुझे कोई एक स्ट्रीम लेना था — आर्ट्स लेता तो घर वाले जीने नहीं देते, साइंस शायद मैं पढ़ नहीं पाता, तो बचा आखिर में कॉमर्स! तो मैंने कॉमर्स ली और बारहवीं पास कर ली! बारहवीं पास होने के बाद समझ नहीं आया कि आगे क्या करें? घर पर ऐसे ही सोचते सोचते दिन निकल रहे थे कि एक दिन मेरे दोस्त ने मुझे टैली नाम का एक कोर्स करने को कहा और बोला की आप इसे सीख लो तो आपकी किसी भी जगह नौकरी लग जाएगी! नौकरी का नाम सुनते ही मैंने जोश-जोश में टैली सीख लिया| अब सीखने के बाद, मुझे नौकरी की तलाश करनी थी जिसमें मेरा कोई इंटरेस्ट नहीं था ना कोई नौकरी तलाश करना, ना जगह जगह जाना! ऐसे ही कई दिनों बाद मेरे दोस्त ने बताया कि यहाँ एक सी.ए. की ज़रूरत है आज आवेदन करने चले जाना, पर मैं ठहरा आलसी व्यक्ति मैं उस जगह नौकरी आवेदन के लिए 10 दिन बाद गया और मुझे नौकरी मिल गई, शायद मेरी किस्मत अच्छी रही होगी या शायद मेरा मासूम चेहरा देख मुझे नौकरी मिल गई! वहाँ शुरू के 6 महीने मेरी ट्रेनिंग हुई और ट्रेनिंग में मुझे बिलकुल इंटरेस्ट नहीं आ रहा था! कुछ और समय गुज़रने के बाद मुझे यह काम कठिन लगने लगा! 6 से 1 साल के बीच कठिनाई आई जैसे काम काठिन लगना, इंटरेस्ट ना आना! इसी बीच मैंने अपने भाई से बात की कि मुझे इंटरेस्ट नहीं आ रहा है। उन्होंने मुझे इस नौकरी का समय पूरा करने को कहा, कि एक साल कर लो फिर छोड़ देना, मैंने ऐसा ही किया! कुछ समय बाद मुझे अपने आप इंटरेस्ट आने लगा, नंबर्स के साथ खेलने में, मुझे मज़ा आने लगा! मेरे काम में मुझे काफ़ी अच्छा लगने लगा है अभी मुझे इस काम को करते हुए तीन से चार साल हो गए हैं और अभी भी मुझे मज़ा आता है फाइनेंस में! फाइनेंस बोरिंग है लोग कहते हैं मेरा मनाना है कि लोग जिस काम में कोई इंटरेस्ट या उस काम को कम जानते हैं तो वह उनको दिलचस्प नहीं लगता और जिन्हे लगता है कि फाइनेंस में गणित हैं, तो मैं बता दूँ कि फाइनेंस में गणित नहीं है बस नंबर्स का प्लस और माइनस होता है! जैसे मैंने जब कॉमर्स ली थी तो वह कॉमर्स मैथ्स के साथ थी और अकाउंटिंग में मैंने ज़्यादा ध्यान नहीं दिया था। ज़्यादा समय मेरा मैथ्स के साथ ही था जिसमें मैंने इंटीग्रेशन के बारे में पढ़ा था जिसका कोई इस्तमाल नहीं है बारहवीं कक्षा के बाद! कॉमर्स में जो गणित मैंने पड़ी थी वह आज काम नहीं आई और जो एकाउंट्स कर रहे थे आज वह काम आ रही है!
शाहिद: आग़ाज़ के बारे में आपको कैसे पता चला?
शोएब: जहाँ मैं काम कर रहा था, वहाँ मैंने आगाज़ के बारे में जाना, क्योंकि वहाँ पर आग़ाज़ की आई.टी.आर जाती थी। वहां से मुझे आग़ाज़ के बारे में काफ़ी कुछ पता चला, जैसे की आग़ाज़ एक एन.जी.ओ है जो निज़ामुद्दीन में है और वहीं के बच्चों के साथ काम करता है। बच्चों को सेफ़ स्पेस देता है। धीरे धीरे मैंने आग़ाज़ के बारे में और जानने कि कोशिश की, वीडियो के ज़रिए से, इंस्टाग्राम के ज़रिए से, ब्लॉग पढ़कर, तो मुझे उनका काम करने का तरीका काफ़ी अच्छा लगने लगा! मैं काफ़ी एक्साइटेड होने लगा कि कब आग़ाज़ में सब से मिलने और उनके साथ काम करने का मौका मिलेगा। एक दिन मेरे सर से मुझे पता चला कि आग़ाज़ का काम बढ़ रहा है तो फाइनेंस के लिए लोग चाहिए जो उनका काम देख पाएँ, और सर ने इस चीज़ के लिए मुझे बढ़ावा दिया! मेरी आग़ाज़ के सदस्यों
से मुलाकात हुई और काम करने का मौका मिला।मेरा मनाना है कि जहाँ भी आप काम करें, आपको काम करते हुए मजा आना चाहिए।
शाहिद: यहाँ आपको काम करके कैसा लग रहा है?
शोएब: फ़िलहाल मैं आग़ाज़ के साथ भी काम कर रहा हूँ और जब मैं आग़ाज़ में पहली बार आया तो मुझे लगा कि यहाँ भी मुझे बस काम करना है फाइनेंस का। जैसे एंट्री करना, बिल कलेक्ट करना और पेमेंट करना, बस यहीं काम है,पर ऐसा नहीं है। जब मैं यहाँ आया तो मुझे मज़ा आने लगा, लोगों से बात करने में, उनसे अलग अलग चीजें सीखने और जानने में। जैसे पहले रीइंबर्समेंट या पेमेंट कास्ट्रक्चर नहीं था, हमने साथ मिलकर उसे बनाया, बिल
और वाउचर को सही से मेंटेन किया, ट्रस्टीज़ से बजट अप्रूवल का सिस्टम सही तरीके से हमने बनाना शुरू किया और फाइनेंस का एस.ओ.पी प्रोसेस करना शुरू किया।
शाहिद: आग़ाज़ कैसे अलग काम करता है दूसरे संस्थाओं से?
शोएब: हम अपने सिस्टम को बेहतर कर रहे हैं जैसे हमने नई कईं पॉलिसी शुरू की है, लीव पॉलिसी, चाइल्ड प्रोटेक्शन पॉलिसी, सेक्सुअल हरासमेंट पॉलिसी- जो पहले नहीं हुआ करती थी जैसे जैसे हम बढ़ते जा रहे हैं हम अपने अंदर सिस्टम को बेहतर करते जा रहे हैं, जिससे सबके लिए सेफ़ स्पेस बना रहे! साथ साथ में मैंने लाइब्रेरी सेटअप या बच्चों के साथ किताबों का इस्तेमाल करके उनके विकास में मदद करना या, खेलना, इसमें भी अक्सर भाग लेता हूं, जो मुझे दिल से अच्छा महसूस करवाता है! शुरू में मुझे डर लगता था कि मैं कैसे किसी से बात करूं, यहां मिलकर के सब लोगों ने मुझे यह महसूस नहीं करने दिया। अब मैं बिलकुल खुलकर किसी से भी बात कर सकता हूँ ! आग़ाज़ में मुझे सबसे अच्छी चीज़ यह लगती है कि यहाँ हम सब जो इस संगठन में काम कर रहे हैं उनसे कोई भी चीज़ छुपा कर नहीं रखी गई है, जैसे हमारे पेमेंट, इनकम या खर्चे किसी से छुपा हुआ नहीं है, हम कैसे बढ़ रहे हैं? हमें कहाँ कहाँ से इनकम आ रही है? यह बातें हम हर 3 महीने में एक मीटिंग में सारे सदस्य को बताते हैं, हम कहाँ अपने खर्चे कर रहे हैं? इसका एक रिपोर्ट तैयार होता है, हमारे सारे सदस्यों के साथ शेयर किया जाता है। अगर मैं किसी सदस्य से मदद के लिए कहता हूँ, तो मुझे काफ़ी सपोर्ट मिलता है दूसरे सदस्य से! मैं आग़ाज़ कभी काम करने आया ही नहीं हूँ, मैं यहाँ अक्सर मौज और मस्ती करने आता हूँ !
शाहिद: आपका फाइनेंस के अलावा और किन चीज़ों में इंटरेस्ट है?
शोएब: वैसे फाइनेंस के अलावा भी मेरा इंटरेस्ट और चीजों में है। मेरा मन हर चीज़ करना चाहता है — जैसे ट्रैवलिंग, क्रिकेट, और नए नए लोगों से बात करना। मुझे सबसे ज़्यादा बिना प्लैन के घूमना पसंद है। जो 6 से 12 घंटे पहले सोचा गया हो क्योंकि मेरा कभी भी प्लानिंग वाला ट्रैवल नहीं हुआ है। एक बार हम सारे दोस्तों ने प्लान किया कि हम औली जाएंगे पर हम चले गए मनाली। ऐसे ही एक बार हमने प्लान बनाया कि हम जिम कॉर्बेट और देहरादून जाएंगे पर हम चले गए केदारनाथ, जो हमें बंद मिला। मेरा मानना है कि जो आपका मन कहे उसे मान लेना चाहिए शायद बाद में ज़िन्दगी आपको समय दे या ना दे!

Shahid: How are you feeling right now?
Shoaib: I am nervous because I am not sure what you will ask, as I have never done this before, and I hope it goes well! I am doing good, and there are many things happening in my life that I want to do and am doing. For example, I recently started exercising. Although I set my alarm for 6:00 AM, I wake up at 7:00 AM. But I still manage to exercise for 10–15 minutes and start other things I want to do. I am also teaching others the skills I have and thinking of ways to improve my skills every day!
Shahid: Tell me a bit about yourself.
Shoaib: Oh, I forgot to introduce myself in our conversation. So, my name is Shoaib, and I live in Delhi. I completed my education with a degree from IGNOU, and currently, I am pursuing an MBA from there and preparing for the CA Foundation exams as well. I am currently working as a freelancer in accounting and expenditures!
Shahid: People consider finance to be boring. Do you feel the same, or how did you develop an interest in finance?
Shoaib: The story behind how I developed an interest in finance is quite unusual. When I passed my tenth grade, my scores were not that great, and I was not a very studious student. So, when it was time to choose a stream for my eleventh grade, taking Arts was not allowed by my family, and I didn’t think I could handle Science. Hence, I ended up with Commerce. After passing the twelfth grade, I was unsure about my future. One day, a friend suggested I take a tally course, and he said that if I learn it, I can get a job anywhere. Out of curiosity, I learned tally, and later, someone informed me about a vacancy in the finance department at a place called Aagaaz. Initially, I wasn’t interested in finance or applying for jobs, but eventually, I ended up working there. During the first six months, I didn’t find the work very engaging, but after some time, I started enjoying it. Now, I have been working in finance for three to four years, and I still find it enjoyable. People say finance is boring, but I believe it depends on whether someone has an interest or understanding in that field. In finance, it’s just about numbers, addition, and subtraction. The math I learned in Commerce is not useful now, but the accounting skills I acquired are valuable.
Shahid: How did you come to know about Aagaaz?
Shoaib: I got to know about Aagaaz where I currently work through its ITAR (Income Tax Approval Request) process. I gathered information about Aagaaz by watching videos, reading their blog through Instagram, and trying to learn as much as possible. I found their way of working quite interesting. When I saw that Aagaaz was growing and needed people in finance, I was motivated, and my supervisor also encouraged me to apply. I met the members of Aagaaz, and that’s how I got the opportunity to work here. My advice is that no matter where you work, you should enjoy the work you do.
Shahid: How do you feel working at Aagaaz compared to other organisations?
Shoaib: Currently, I work at Aagaaz alongside my finance job. Initially, I thought I would only be handling finance-related tasks like data entry, bill collection, and payments. However, it turned out to be much more than that. I enjoy interacting with people, learning new things, and making improvements. We implemented new policies like leave policy, child policy, and sexual harassment policy, which were not present before. We are continually improving our internal system to make it safer for everyone. I also participate in setting up the library or helping children with their development through reading and playing. Initially, I was hesitant to talk to people, but now I am much more confident and open to conversations. I don’t just come to Aagaaz for work; I come here to have fun and enjoy my time.
Shahid: Apart from finance, what else interests you?
Shoaib: Apart from finance, I have interests in various other things. I have a curious mind and want to do everything. I enjoy traveling, playing cricket, and talking to new people. I love spontaneous trips without any prior planning. For instance, once we planned to visit Ooty, but we ended up going to Kedarnath instead, as fate would have it. My belief is that you should listen to your heart and do whatever makes you happy because life may or may not give you the time for it later on.
About the Interviewer:
Shahid is a founding member of Aagaaz Theatre Trust and is a part of its repertory. He has worked as an actor in three productions with the organisation — Duniya Sabki, Raavan Aaya, and Rihla. He is deeply interested in the world of sounds and music. In 2021–22 he received a fellowship in sound design called Transmitterance, supported by Drishti Media, Ahmedabad. He is a graduate from Delhi University’s Zakir Hussain College. Recently he has joined the Aagaaz team as an artist-facilitator and is learning the skills needed to raise funds.
